Radiohead were formed in Abington, England and consist of Thom Yorke (lead vocals, rhythm guitar, piano, electronic instruments), Jonny Greenwood (lead guitar, other instruments), Ed O'Brien (guitar, backing vocals), Colin Greenwood (bass guitar, synthesisers) and Phil Selway (drums, percussion). Initially known as "On A Friday", the band's name was renamed to "Radiohead". The band signed to EMI and released on 22 February 1993 their debut album Pablo Honey. It received a Platinum certification by British Phonographic Industry (BPI) and Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and a 3× Platinum certfication by Canadian Recording Industry Association (CRIA). The album produced the song "Creep", which was released later as a debut single and eventually became the band's most successful single, charting in over seven countries in the top 10. The second album, The Bends, was released on 13 March 1995 and became the first album to peak in the top 10. It also received 3× Platinum certifications by both BPI and CRIA.
OK Computer, the band's most successful album, was released two years later, on 16 June 1997. It peaked on several charts in the top 10, including on the UK Album Chart and on the Irish Album Charts at number one, and received a 3× Platinum by CRIA and BPI. The following albums were moderate successfully, winning Platinum and Gold certifications. Kid A became the first album to chart on Billboard 200. Hail to the Thief became the last album released by EMI; the following two, In Rainbows and The King of Limbs, were self-released. The former was originally available as a digital download, for which customers could set their own price, and later in physical form to critical and chart success, selling more than three million copies within one year of release. The latter was firstly released on 18 February as a digital download and later physically on 28 March 2011.
